Recruit Vikings
Each discovered biome has its own camp and roster of up to 20 Vikings.

NEW PLAYER HELP · FIRST STEPS
You begin by gathering manually. Spend those supplies on buildings, and the buildings will keep producing resources while you play—or while you are away.
Gather your first supplies to begin.
BEYOND THE SETTLEMENT
Prepare an expedition
Gather at least 3 wood and 2 stone every 2.5 seconds. Production is collected automatically every 30 seconds while this page is open. Offline production is capped at eight hours. Woodcutter and Quarry levels have diminishing output after level 5. Great Hall upgrades remain powerful because they improve both resources, so their prices scale more sharply after level 5.
NEW TO VALHEIM?
Northrend Idle turns Valheim’s survival journey into a persistent settlement adventure. Gather resources, build crafting stations, prepare food and equipment, explore harsher biomes, and defeat each biome’s Forsaken boss to move forward.
Claim one permanent site on the shared World map, then open Settlement to gather wood and stone. Build a Woodcutter and Quarry so resources continue accumulating while you are away.
These unlock your first recipes. Buildings are your progression gates: new stations reveal stronger equipment, food, and materials.
Use Hunting to draw the bow and release when your shot is lined up. Raw meat feeds your settlement; leather scraps become early equipment.
Open Gathering, choose a biome, and assign Vikings from that biome’s camp. Every survivor improves the randomized haul and rare-find odds, but dangerous trips can cost lives.
Visit the Workshop. Food is preparation rather than a starvation meter: packed meals strengthen an expedition. Match weapons and protection to the danger ahead.
Follow the combat path for permanent Combat XP and supplies. Learn attack warnings, blocking, and dodging without risking one of your Vikings.
Each discovered biome has its own camp and room for 20 Vikings. Recruitment becomes more expensive as your total roster grows. Shared weapon and armor upgrades protect every gathering and boss party; equipment matters far more than sending a crowd of unprepared Vikings.
Boss victories unlock the next stage of progression. Eikthyr opens the Black Forest, The Elder leads to the Swamp, Bonemass reveals the Mountains, and Moder opens the road to the Plains.
At 20,000 combined wood and stone, raids begin. That first 20,000 is always protected. A raid risks only 4–12% of resources above it, and an unattended loss takes at most half the displayed stake. Fight live to protect everything; gear, Combat training, and the Great Hall improve automatic defense.
Hunting and Battles are active minigames. A miss or defeat costs no Viking.
Gathering and boss expeditions can cause casualties. Armor is your strongest protection; weapons and Combat level also help. Send larger parties for more loot rolls, but only risk Vikings you can afford to lose.
Raids begin at 20,000 stored resources. The first 20,000 can never be taken. Higher excess wealth increases the raid stake and frequency, but never exposes your whole settlement.
Your settlement keeps working while you are away, with offline production capped at eight hours. Night reduces passive production to 30%; your Great Hall hearth and worksite lights keep more workers on shift.
NEXT STEP is clickable and opens the correct tab or resource source. A highlighted control is the action to take next.
Buy and Upgrade buttons display their price. Pressing one spends those resources immediately. If a button is dimmed, read the message beside it to see what is missing or which prerequisite must be completed.
Settlement creates wood and stone, Hunting gives active-play loot, Gathering runs timed material trips, Workshop turns materials into useful items, Inventory shows everything you own, Battles safely trains your main Viking, and Warband prepares dangerous boss expeditions.
RISKY RESOURCE EXPEDITIONS
Send Vikings from a biome camp to search for crafting materials. Larger parties bring more loot chances—including rare finds—while shared equipment improves their odds of returning alive.
Every trip has a different controlled haul. More survivors increase material quantities and rare-find odds; especially rare crafting finds such as Surtling Cores are capped at three per trip. Casualties and their loot are lost. These trips do not award boss credit.

ACTIVE HUNTING · MEADOWS
Track a different herd of moving deer and boar on every Meadows outing. Aim with your mouse, hold left click to draw, then release to shoot. Read the wind, lead your prey, and account for arrow drop. A headshot earns bonus meat and leather.
5 arrows · 1–5 deer & boar · Meat + leather
Hold left click in the clearing to start and draw, or use Start hunting. Body hit: 2 meat + 1 leather. Headshot: 3 meat + 2 leather.
Keyboard: focus the clearing, arrow keys aim, hold/release Space to shoot, Escape cancels. Touch: hold and drag to aim, release to shoot. The dotted arc follows the gentle aim sway and previews trajectory; the wind indicator shows horizontal drift. Each outing has 1–5 animals and five arrows, so larger herds reward careful shots. A new outing is available every minute. Your existing shared weapon tier upgrades this bow—there is no separate loadout to manage.
PREPARE FOR THE WILDS
CREW & EQUIPMENT
Recruit Vikings into the boss’s biome camp and improve the shared weapon and armor used by both your main Viking and the warband.
WAR BAND AT A GLANCE
Each discovered biome has its own camp and roster of up to 20 Vikings.
One shared upgrade: stronger attacks in personal fights and better odds for boss expeditions.
One shared upgrade: less damage in personal fights and fewer warband casualties.
TRAINING & EXPERIENCE
Vikings learn through expeditions. Each returning Viking earns 5 combat XP for the settlement; Vikings lost in battle earn none. Active encounters provide a safe combat path with 5–32 XP per victory and no warband casualties.
Use Battles for free active training. Boss rematches also teach survivors, but cost supplies and risk lives.
BOSS PROGRESSION
A first victory unlocks the next biome and awards its boss relic. Supplies are spent on departure and Viking casualties are permanent.
Choose up to three foods. Every Viking consumes one portion of each selected food when the party leaves.
This chooses a boss matchup style, not another upgrade track. Its quality comes from your main Viking’s shared weapon tier.
Bonemass adds 10 percentage points of poison casualty risk without mead. Bows struggle against Bonemass; iron maces are effective.
The five-minute boss fight continues while you are away. Its result is saved when you read the outcome.
ACTIVE COMBAT
Personal battles train Combat without risking a Viking. Read the warning, manage stamina, and strike after the enemy commits.
Your main Viking’s crafted weapon and armor apply here and to boss expeditions.
Victories continue directly into the next creature. A loss or completed sequence returns the path to the Boar and begins a short, difficulty-scaled rest. Defeat costs no Vikings or saved progress.
Select an encounter to preview its challenge and rewards.
Choose an unlocked encounter, then enter the arena. Desktop: WASD or arrows move, left click attacks, right click blocks, and Q dodges. Mobile: use the controls below the arena.
SHARED WORLD · MEADOWS
Every player settles on this same Meadows map. Pick an open area for your first camp and see neighboring settlements take shape around you. This permanent location is the foundation for future travel, alliances, and PvP.
YOUR SETTLEMENT’S STORY
Skills belong to your settlement. Survivors bring experience home; lost Vikings earn no combat XP. Each level takes more practice.
